@Fahad Meer I remember when you first shared the "teach-don't-tell" approach at an Information Session at the Toronto office back in February and it has stuck with me ever since.
by Aaron Carscadden9/19/2012 8:30:49 PM
Hi Marium! Yes there are a number of different opportunities to travel. Some times you will have short travels for a one or two weeks. I know many individuals who will fly out to their client's head office in New York City for a week.
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:30:52 PM
Thank you Fahad! I have watched your Campaign Star video before. I love the "teach-don't-tell" philosophy that PwC embodies.
by Aseem Ali9/19/2012 8:30:52 PM
Hey Umer! Great to see you here! As an Experienced Associate, I have assumed more responsibilities and am now dealing with more complex sections of the audit file. But more importantly, I now have the opportunity to coach New Associates and Summer Interns on my jobs and that to me is super exciting!
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:31:53 PM
Hello Aaron! Great to hear from you. I am so happy that it has stuck with you and I really hope you get the opportunity to exercise it in your professional career! It truly is a gem of a practice.
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:32:40 PM
I go to a school where recruiting events happen sparsely. I'm interested in a particular group at PwC. If I wanted to learn more, would it be possible for a recruiter to take 15 mins out of their day to meet us? It's intimidating making such a request to a recruiter.
by Antonin Dolohov9/19/2012 8:32:49 PM
@moe Hi Moe, we're receiving a lot of questions and are prioritising on these, your question is a little more unique. You'll need to review our experienced recruitment website and searh LinkedIn for our recruiters from this team. They're on twitter as well so you can connect with them on their.

My messages are not going through ... I was wondering if PwC is attending any career fairs apart from a company presentation at McGill.
by Nazia9/19/2012 8:33:08 PM
Hi Lucy – here is my list of tips: don’t be scared to ask questions, be open to new experiences, and be accepting that it is a steep learning curve for everyone when you first begin but there will always be someone there to support and assist you!
by chadd.j.vandermade9/19/2012 8:33:17 PM
Hi Samrah - in regards to your question, it definitely helps team development when you have weekly catch up meetings were you discuss lessons learned, success stories, what works wells. I find it definitely helps the team growth and personal growth.
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:33:20 PM
Hello Aseem. That is fantastic! I love the "teach dont tell" philosophy myself and that is one of the biggest selling points of PwC in my opinion. The learning culture is truly fantastic!
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:33:24 PM
@chadd.j.vandermade .. Hey Chadd. I don't have any questions for you at the moment as we had a good chat on Monday at the office tour. I just wanted to say thanks for the time you spent talking with me and to your firm for holding the event! I learned a lot about your firm and I really enjoyed talking to you about your travel experiences. I've always wanted to travel but have never wanted to take time off of work or school to do so - Therefore, these opportunities at PwC seem like a great way to achieve all of my goals and plans! Hope I'll see you at Carleton's Wine and Cheese tomorrow!

Hi Elizabeth, I wanted to ask for the benefit of all accounting students here; with all the changes currently in process in regards to the CPA merger - will this impact any new hires in 2013. Specifically, will all our prerequisite accounting course for the ICAO suffice?? Thank you.
by Naveed_A_Khalid9/19/2012 8:34:46 PM
Homaria, we are always looking for summer students and the number that we end up hiring will be totally dependent on the caliber of the candidates each year!
by chadd.j.vandermade9/19/2012 8:35:00 PM
That's pretty amazing Chadd. This makes me look forward to secondment opportunities. I find it very difficult to stop learning. It's one reason why I set out to pursue my CA designation (just wrote the UFE) even though I'm doing very well at Franklin Templeton Investments as a Financial Analyst (non-CATO).
by Johnny Fai Cheong Ly9/19/2012 8:35:21 PM
Hi Anthonin - you can definitely reach out to recruiters via social media, email, and by phone. There's so many ways to get connected via the technology!!
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:35:27 PM
@Dave Richmond Hi Dave, you should send us your business resume, a cover letter and your transcripts. In the cover letter you'll need to articulate why you want to work in consulting and the skills you'll bring etc. Such as analyticial skills gained from your PhD. Good luck!
by james.x.davidson9/19/2012 8:35:46 PM
Hi Fahad - Nice to hear from you again. I hope all is well with you. As a keen learner and with a passion for traveling, I've looked into the Global Mobility Programs at PwC. Would you say, that this program is similar to a secondment? It sounds like an exciting opportunity, to be able to travel to offer services such as tax planning for clients. I want to know, how does PwC provide for any training (technical and cultural) that could be required for an international assignment?
by Samrah Saghir9/19/2012 8:35:51 PM
Christopher, thanks for the feedback and I will see you tomorrow at the Sprott Wine & Cheese!
by chadd.j.vandermade9/19/2012 8:35:56 PM
Hi Elizabeth- Does a candidate need to have previous experience to be a part of Consulting and Deals? And do consulting and deals provide CA training?
by Zain Fayyaz9/19/2012 8:36:12 PM
Hi Fahad! How would performance be measured at PwC once full-time hires start working?
by Turk Lafci9/19/2012 8:36:32 PM
Hi Naveed - No, the talks about the merger will not have any impact on our hiring for 2013. And yes all of your accounting courses for the ICAO will suffice! :)
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:36:45 PM
Hi everyone! I have a quick question. I am currently attending school in Quebec and have attended PwC networking events here in the past. However, I am looking for positions in English-speaking parts of Canada, in particular Ottawa, but have not had a chance to meet with the recruiters and PwC team in that region yet. Will that put me at a disadvantage?
by yuro.f9/19/2012 8:37:13 PM
Hey Samrah! Great to see you here and thank you for taking part in our live chat! The Global Mobility program is broken down into "long term" and "short term" secondments. Long-term secondments are generally > 6 months and short-term secondments are 6 months or less. Given that PwC has offices worldwide, the program is super exciting!
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:37:35 PM
@Zain Fayyaz Hi Zain, in Deals we offer a CA in the GTA, Consulting is NOT a CA route - it's management consulting which is very different - we'll hire people who have done accounting degrees, but not people who want to do a CA for this entry point - we provide comprehensive management consulting training instead.
by james.x.davidson9/19/2012 8:37:43 PM
Thanks Liz! That's a relief! :-)
by Naveed_A_Khalid9/19/2012 8:37:49 PM
I have had a variety of engagement roles within the PwC Windsor office and would like to know what roles a new hire will be placed into within the GTA area?
by Jayson Bastien9/19/2012 8:37:56 PM
Thanks PwC team for their answers!
by Victoria Didkovska9/19/2012 8:38:08 PM
Hi James, I am a recent grad who is interested in associate consulting position in Calgary. I am just wondering if there would any advantages or disadvantages of having a marketing background while carrying on duties as a consultant?
by Justin Chung9/19/2012 8:38:31 PM
Great question (and great seeing you here as well!) After every engagement, you will submit a self-evaluation on your performance to the senior and manager and they give you a rating of met/exceed/did not meet expectations. Generally, performance is benchmarked against our performance on the job and how we invest in relationships.
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:38:48 PM
@Ja mes: Thank you! and thanks everyone for the opportunity to connect and ask questions!
by Dave Richmond9/19/2012 8:38:56 PM
Thank you so much for doing this, PwC. First the TalentEgg office hours and now this - Appreciate it!
by Talha R.9/19/2012 8:39:16 PM
Hello PwC staff! I just wanted to thank you for hosting this wonderful session. I was wondering , based on your experiences what advice do you have for someone who wants to succeed in the audit profession? Also, what motivates you to continue your career in this practice? Thanks in advance!
by Debbie Ho9/19/2012 8:44:23 PM
Hi PwC! The AAG (full-time) application deadline for University of Waterloo was the 14th. I was wondering when successful candidates can expect to hear back by, and how they will be notified. Thank you!
by katie_chu9/19/2012 8:44:49 PM
@Owais Tabish Soon! stay tuned :)
by gail.balfour9/19/2012 8:48:13 PM
Hey Talha! Simple. To get to where I am in my career, so many people helped me out. It only makes sense for me to help others out as well become successful because it truly is what I am passionate about. It is also what the firm is passionate about! We want to see you successful in your career and given that PwC is the firm that truly cares about the community and its people, it is our pleasure to help you all out :)
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:48:21 PM
As I've exhausted my questions for the wonderful PwC Reps.. I just wanted to wish all my fellow students the best of luck in their academics and future goals!! And as always, it was a pleasure chatting with you all!!
by Naveed_A_Khalid9/19/2012 8:48:41 PM

by Jayson Bastien9/19/2012 8:48:49 PM
How does PwC help recruits maximize potential given the large number of new hires each year?
by Scott Beaton9/19/2012 8:49:01 PM
Hey Owais, it will be up soon :) Give it a day or so and keep following my Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn page for updates!
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:49:21 PM
Hi Abdu - of course! PwC supports individuals volunteering in the community. You can leave work early to volunteer if it's something you are very passionate about. The firms supports giving back to the community and encourages volunteering.
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:49:43 PM
Thanks Naveed for your kind words and encouragement for your peers! Best of luck this year!
