Hi Fahad! Hope your doing well! Professional development and learning is so important to me as a student. How do you feel has PwC catered to your professional development and fostered a learning environment for yourself?
by Aseem Ali9/19/2012 8:07:39 PM
Hi Owais - PwC looks for candidates that do in fact have accounting experience. And we do take students who have started their CA exams.
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:07:44 PM
Hi Chadd, I got the opportunity to speak with you at your info session in Ottawa on Monday and I was hoping you could offer some more insight into ways to stand out from other applicants.
by Aaron Carscadden9/19/2012 8:08:03 PM
Great question umer_far! I am actually using my volunteer day to assist with an Easter Seals fundraiser next Monday where participants fundraise and then repeal down a 15 storey building downtown! I have volunteered at this event for the last three years as I strongly believe in the mission of the organization. I really like that PwC allows each employee to volunteer with an organization that they feel strongly about!
by chadd.j.vandermade9/19/2012 8:08:16 PM
I know that many applications for PwC were due last week. I was wondering specifically for the new tax associate position, what is the timeline for interviews? and when will we hear back from the recruiters? Thank you.
by Vivian Li9/19/2012 8:08:30 PM
Hi Fahad, please explain briefly the difference between management and strategy consulting? I thoght they were synonyms?
by Naveed_A_Khalid9/19/2012 8:08:52 PM
@Kevin Thomas OK, good on you for pursuing your dream! If you don't have experience you'll need to apply to to entry level roles. I'd suggest you apply to us as well as many other firms as possible, to ensure you cover your bases. Good Luck!
by james.x.davidson9/19/2012 8:09:31 PM
Hello everyone! First, I would like to thank PwC representatives for this amazing opportunity!
Second my question is : Acknowledging that PwC has a very supportive culture and a great mentorship program, how does PwC promote a positive work life style amongst its employees? Such as stress management, taking care of oneself etc.
by 1Marium_Imtiaz9/19/2012 8:09:39 PM
Hey Aseem! You bring up an excellent point. Professional development is something near and dear to my heart so when I was deciding on working for a firm, I wanted to make sure I was going to work for an organization that not only constantly challenges me, but also provides me with the right support on and off my job. At PwC we have this program called Enhanced Working Practices (EWP) and it allows me to really learn from my peers constantly through innovative techniques!
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:09:56 PM
Hi Vivian - You will hear from our Tax Recruiter Fiona Grieve in the next week if you are successful in getting a interview for the Tax associate position! Good Luck!
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:10:04 PM
Hi everyone! I was wondering to get involved in PwC AAG internship. I was wondering if I can get more information of the skills needed?
by Api9/19/2012 8:10:13 PM
@1Marium_Imtiaz hello, great question! We have a lot of info on this on this page: www.pwc.com
by gail.balfour9/19/2012 8:10:13 PM
@Vivian Li Hi Vivian, if you're applying to the GTA, I believe they will be communicating over the next few days, they held their meetings this morning! Good luck
by james.x.davidson9/19/2012 8:10:36 PM
@chadd.j.vandermade wow! That sounds exhilarating! Volunteering through PwC (should I get hired) is something I'm really looking forward to and it puts me at ease to know someone has had this experience already.
by _umer_far9/19/2012 8:10:55 PM
Hi Aaron – it’s great to hear from you again. To be honest you already have by attending our office tour and following up with me afterwards! I would recommend tailoring your cover letter based on conversations that you had at our event on Monday. Good luck and let me know if you have any more questions!
by chadd.j.vandermade9/19/2012 8:11:25 PM
Elizabeth, you answered my question! I'm anxiously waiting for a call from Fiona and the tax team as well.
by Talha R.9/19/2012 8:11:26 PM
Hey Naveed! Management consulting deals with more of the operational issues of a business such as dealing with the introduction of an outsourcing HR function. Strategy consulting on the other hand is more so about helping organizations deal with the introduction of a new product or a market to launch its product. Both are exciting roles!
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:11:37 PM
Hi James - I saw your TalentEgg video where you spoke about the expansion of the opportunities in Tax to pursue the CA designation. As a student that is open to exploring this path, what insight can you provide in making the right choice between Audit and Tax?
by Uria Park9/19/2012 8:11:39 PM
Thank you for your response, James and Elizabeth!
by Vivian Li9/19/2012 8:12:01 PM
Regarding our PwC AAG Internship, we look for students who have strong communication skills, work well in teams and has strong leadership skills. These are some of the competencies we look for for candidates applying for internships.
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:12:16 PM
Great to hear - best of luck umer_far!
by chadd.j.vandermade9/19/2012 8:12:36 PM
Hello Elizabeth, James, Chadd, and Fahad! Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. Regarding PwC's non-specialization approach for entry-level associates, at what point would we have to specialize in any one particular industry? Or would we have the option of not specializing at all? Thanks!
by Fatima Tariq9/19/2012 8:12:44 PM
Hi Fahad I have similar question as Aseem Ali, Since I will be done with all my exams as part of ICAO professional program. What other continuing education opportunity are supported by PwC ?
by Nazir Shaikh9/19/2012 8:13:20 PM
@Uria Park Hi Uria! It's really important you do the research and select the role that's right for you. Both lead to CAs but the work is different, so you need to understand what will interest you most. Talk with our people, watch our videos and review the 'what we do section'. I hope this helps

Hello. I am a second year student studying at UTM in the Accounting Specialist stream. I am involved with numerous activities on campus. I am interested in pursuing the CA path. I was wondering, what skills should I highlight when applying for an intership with PwC?
by Haya Asim9/19/2012 8:14:26 PM
Hi Liz, regarding the AAG full time applications, when can McMaster Students expect to hear about interviews? Just getting anxious :)
by Terri Taiyab9/19/2012 8:14:42 PM
Hi Terri! Hope you are doing well! You will hear from us by end of week regarding successful candidates at McMaster for interviews!!
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:15:20 PM
Hello Fatima! The non-specialization program is something very unique to PwC and is in fact one of the most important reasons why I joined the firm! Generally, individual's at the Manager level and above would tend to focus more on specializing in a specific industry. New Associates would generally get a good feel as to which industry they want to specialize in the future by experiencing them all!
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:15:31 PM
@gail.balfour Thanks for doing this!
by _umer_far9/19/2012 8:15:48 PM
Hi Fatima – that’s a great question and one of the main reasons why I chose to work in a regional office. Here at PwC Ottawa you don’t ever HAVE to specialize. In your first couple of year you are exposed to a wide variety of industries. At some point, some people choose to focus on clients in a particular industry while others enjoy the variety we offer – it’s totally up to you!
by chadd.j.vandermade9/19/2012 8:16:27 PM
@_umer_far no problem :)
by gail.balfour9/19/2012 8:16:34 PM
Thank you Liz! Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions! It must be a busy time!
by Terri Taiyab9/19/2012 8:16:43 PM
Thank you, James! I've definitely been keeping up to date with all of PwC's latest news, especially through the firm's powerful involvement in connecting through social media!
by Uria Park9/19/2012 8:16:47 PM
@Haya Asim Hi Haya! Great question, we look at a number of elements when reviewing resumes. Good grades are important to us so you need to ensure you've done well in your accounting courses. Next we'll look at your work experience and experience of leading teams at school etc. Finally, we review your written communication style for spelling and grammar errors etc!
by james.x.davidson9/19/2012 8:16:48 PM
@chadd.j.vandermade Great! Thank you again for your advice!
by Aaron Carscadden9/19/2012 8:17:03 PM
It seems as if there seems to be a definitive path to getting a position at a CA firm. Have amazing marks, some extracurric activities and you're in. But don't so many people have that? How do you decide between 50 people with the exact same credentials?
by Antonin Dolohov9/19/2012 8:17:19 PM
Hey Nazir! Great question. It all depends as to what role you will be assuming at the firm. The firm will only support and pay for continuing education if it relates to your specific role. For example, if you are specializing in funds and are in the Financial Services industry at PwC, the firm will actually support you in obtaining your CFA designation. Pretty exciting eh?
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:17:47 PM
Thanks James Davidson for answering my question.
by Kevin Thomas9/19/2012 8:17:52 PM
Elizabeth, I read recently about Genesis Park on the PwC website. It sounds like a really exciting leadership program for someone who is in a leadership role such as a senior manager. I'm very enthusiastic about learning and sharing my experiences with others as well as helping others, so I want to know if Genesis Park can also be catered for people who are still Associates or just got their CA for a learning experience, because I think it could be a great learning opportunity.
by Samrah Saghir9/19/2012 8:18:25 PM
Hi Haya - the skills you should highlight when applying to PwC full time and summer positions are strong leadership skills, great communication skills and excellent leadership skills.
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:18:44 PM
Thanks James! This really helps. I hope to hear from PwC soon.
