Hi James, I am a recent grad who is interested in associate consulting position in Calgary. I am just wondering if there would any advantages or disadvantages of having a marketing background while carrying on duties as a consultant?
by Justin Chung9/19/2012 8:38:31 PM
Hey Turk,
Great question (and great seeing you here as well!) After every engagement, you will submit a self-evaluation on your performance to the senior and manager and they give you a rating of met/exceed/did not meet expectations. Generally, performance is benchmarked against our performance on the job and how we invest in relationships.

@Ja mes: Thank you! and thanks everyone for the opportunity to connect and ask questions!

Hello PwC staff! I just wanted to thank you for hosting this wonderful session. I was wondering , based on your experiences what advice do you have for someone who wants to succeed in the audit profession? Also, what motivates you to continue your career in this practice? Thanks in advance!

Hi PwC! The AAG (full-time) application deadline for University of Waterloo was the 14th. I was wondering when successful candidates can expect to hear back by, and how they will be notified. Thank you!

How does PwC help recruits maximize potential given the large number of new hires each year?
by Scott Beaton9/19/2012 8:49:01 PM
Hey Owais, it will be up soon :) Give it a day or so and keep following my Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn page for updates!
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:49:21 PM
Hi Abdu - of course! PwC supports individuals volunteering in the community. You can leave work early to volunteer if it's something you are very passionate about. The firms supports giving back to the community and encourages volunteering.
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:49:43 PM

Does PwC have office tours? I went to one of the firms office tours and it really helps a great deal in getting a sense of the culture at a firm.
by Owais Tabish9/19/2012 8:50:37 PM
@chadd.j.vandermade Thank you for the advice Chad! I hope to see you at the PwC office tour on Monday! Would you be able to tell me if you usually hire anyone in second year as a summer intern?
by Homaira Ishmum9/19/2012 8:51:19 PM
Thank you guys for your time and answers! :)
by Raisa9/19/2012 8:51:35 PM
@Scott Beaton Because of the large number of hires each year (over 700 this year!) it means were set up to do this and ensure people's success. Whether that's through our approach to learning (teach, don't tell) our enhanced working practices like shadowing and rounds discussions and the training we provide to pass exams, we have the resources. But we ensure people don't get 'lost' by providing them a coach and ensuring events with their year group to build relationships etc. I hope this helps.
by james.x.davidson9/19/2012 8:51:41 PM
Hi Debbie, that is a great question. To succeed in an audit career, you need to be able to adapt to a very of different situations as each audit is different. You have to be a good problem solver and definitely someone who is up for a challenge! I am motivated to continue my career in audit because I wake up every day knowing that I will be challenged and get to work with a group of great people!
by chadd.j.vandermade9/19/2012 8:51:51 PM
@Fahad. Amazing. You're right. I had a lot of older people help me out during uni as well, and the only way I can only pay them back is by helping other, younger students. Thank you, Fahad!
by Talha R.9/19/2012 8:51:56 PM
Hi Owais - Yes we do have office visits in the next month if you are successful through the interview process!
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:52:00 PM
Thanks Elizabeth, I wanted to commend you and your recruiting team on an awesome job this season with the skills sessions, campus visits, and the Brilliant Futures site which by the way is the best out there when it comes to providing great advice and information.
by Adey El-Rayes9/19/2012 8:52:04 PM
No problem Talha! Thanks for asking that question by the way. :)

by Abdu Gassim9/19/2012 8:53:04 PM
Hi Elizabeth! I hope you're well! Understanding that you've had the opportunity to meet and see many Associates grow at the firm, what aspect of PwC do you believe has been a key contributing factor to their growth and career progression?
by Uria Park9/19/2012 8:53:11 PM
Thank you Fahad! As a follow up question: will we still be able to sign off on engagments if we pursue through the Tax Practice?
by Hibbah Khan9/19/2012 8:53:34 PM
Thank you PwC for this online interactive event. It is really helpful as it gives valuable information about recruitment and career.

I’m going to give this another try, because I’m very concerned that my application did not go through. I did not receive a candidate confirmation number when I applied Sept 1st, 2012 for a GTA AAG role. I have tried contacting the “Campus Recruiting Office GTA” through the web form and e-mailed Brassring/Kenexa regarding this matter last Friday. To date, I have yet to receive a response. I completely understand the recruitment season is extremely busy and as a result my question may take some time to be answered. Is this something I should be concerned about?
by Johnny Fai Cheong Ly9/19/2012 8:54:14 PM
Thanks Fahad... see you around!
by Naveed_A_Khalid9/19/2012 8:54:15 PM
@James.x.davison Thanks James!

Thanks Elizabeth, I am looking forward to it (hopefully!). Thank you all for answering all our questions.
by Owais Tabish9/19/2012 8:54:36 PM
No problem, Fahad. I've always wondered about that. Hoping to see you soon! Take care, Fahad.
by Talha R.9/19/2012 8:55:18 PM
Hi Uria, great questionn! I think it's the coaching at PwC that has helped with my personal and professional growth at the firm. I've been provided so much direction and support through all the work I've done at the firm. It's a great feeling knowing you have support in everything you do.
by elizabeth.m.bendia9/19/2012 8:55:32 PM
Hey Hibbah! Yes, they will still be able to sign off but keep in mind that only Partner's have that special privilege :)
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:55:40 PM
@Johnny Fai Cheong Ly Hi Jonny, did you check your junk mail? Can you give me the name you applied under and I'll check our system?

See you around Naveed. Thanks!
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:55:51 PM
Hi Elizabeth! We meet at the Wine & Cheese event at UTM. I had a question relating the internship in AAG. Are we allowed to receive experience in a path other than in audit in the internship such as in recruitment?
by Aseem Ali9/19/2012 8:56:10 PM
Hey Talha! Thank you once again and I look forward to seeing you in the near future!
by Fahad Meer9/19/2012 8:56:21 PM
@James.x.davidson Hi James, how long in your career do you have a coach for? Also, is it the same coach through out or does your coach change over the years?
by Terri Taiyab9/19/2012 8:56:30 PM
@Chadd thank you so much for your insight! I was afraid my question would get lost in the sea of responses. Also, thank you to all the staff for answering everyone's questions. I have found each response very valuable and informative.
by Debbie Ho9/19/2012 8:56:41 PM
@chadd.j.vandermade @elizabeth.m.bendia @james.x.davidson @Fahad Meer Thanks for doing this guys! I've got to get to class but this was very informative! All the best!
